Carly Rae Jepsen released Day and Night on September 18 through Interscope Records, with Versailles highlighted alongside a new video. The announcement presents the day and night concept as a way of organizing contrasting approaches to pop and dance music.

Jepsen wrote Versailles with Elias Kapari, Noonie Bao and Markus Krunegård; Kapari produced the track. Kanya Iwana directed the video, filmed in Los Angeles. The song’s stated inspiration is Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette.

The release identifies earlier singles On Wires and After All with the day side, while Motivation and Don’t Leave Me on the Dance Floor represent the night side. Those placements provide a map of the project’s intended contrast.

Using the album’s organizing idea

A day-and-night division can be followed through sequencing as well as individual tracks. One useful question is where a change in arrangement, pace or lyrical perspective makes the transition feel meaningful. It is a starting point for listening, rather than an assumption that every song on either side behaves alike.

For a quick introduction, the focus track and its credited collaborators give readers something specific to explore. For a fuller picture, the album order is the more relevant reference.
