John Legend released Muse on October 23 through Republic Records. Pharrell Williams produced the full album and co-wrote the project, marking the pair’s first complete album together after earlier connections in their careers.

The release arrived with Bodies on the Floor, featuring Clipse, and a black-and-white video directed by Paul Hunter and produced by PRETTYBIRD. Legend wrote the track’s lyrics with Samm Henshaw. The announcement describes a relationship caught between hurt and reconciliation as the song’s dramatic frame.

Much of the writing and recording took place at Williams’ studio at Louis Vuitton headquarters in Paris. The statement identifies strings, horns and 808 percussion among the album’s building materials, alongside references to gospel, soul, standards, Afrobeats and hip-hop.

A collaboration across an entire sequence

A full-album production partnership offers a different perspective from a single guest appearance. Listeners can follow recurring instrumental choices, the space around Legend’s voice and the way one track prepares the next. Those details help explain the collaboration without reducing either artist to a genre label.

The Clipse feature gives one specific point of entry, but it is only part of the record. Hearing that track within the running order can clarify whether its narrative and rhythmic approach recur elsewhere or function as a deliberate change. The official release links below provide the album and video.
