Brothers Osborne released Watertown, their fifth studio album, on October 23 through MCA. Jay Joyce returns as producer for the eleven-track project, which includes guest appearances by Cody Johnson and Stephen Wilson Jr.
Johnson joins the opening song, Born and Raised Hell, while Wilson appears on Tough Kid. A Nick Swift-directed video for the opener was filmed in Nashville and released with the album. The announcement sets November 2 as the track’s country-radio impact date, separate from the album’s October release.
New voices inside a familiar partnership
The duo’s statement frames the record around the musical roots of its beginnings. Bringing outside singers into that setting creates a useful listening question: where does a guest change the conversation, and where does the established voice-and-guitar partnership remain the center?
The opening collaboration and the later Tough Kid feature offer two places to follow that question. The songs between them provide the necessary context; a pair of guest credits alone cannot explain the shape of an entire album.
The official running order also includes writing credits, allowing readers to distinguish the musicians performing a song from the people who composed it. That is especially useful on a record combining contributions from the brothers with outside writers. The linked release announcement contains the full personnel information and the new video.
