Ann and Nancy Wilson Perform ‘Janie’s Got a Gun’ at Aerosmith’s Hollywood Bowl Celebration

Ann and Nancy Wilson performed Aerosmith’s “Janie’s Got a Gun” at the Hollywood Bowl on October 29, 2026, bringing the Heart partnership to a concert celebrating another band’s catalogue. Ann handled lead vocals while Nancy played electric guitar during the Los Angeles appearance.

The performance formed part of California, Dream On: Aerosmith & Friends, announced as a two-night event on October 29 and November 1. Aerosmith’s official announcement included Heart among a guest lineup spanning Guns N’ Roses, the Black Crowes, Billy Idol and Sammy Hagar, with lineups subject to change between nights.

The Wilsons’ contribution paired two songs from different musical traditions. According to JamBase’s account of the opening night, they performed Aretha Franklin’s “I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)” before moving into “Janie’s Got a Gun.” Eric Church followed their appearance.

The Aerosmith selection brought a serious narrative into the tribute. Released on the band’s 1989 album Pump, “Janie’s Got a Gun” deals with sexual abuse and retaliation. Its subject gives the song a different weight from a straightforward celebration of a familiar rock chorus.

The stage photograph accompanying this article shows Ann seated at the microphone, with Nancy beside her holding a turquoise electric guitar. That image keeps both musicians in the frame: the lead singer whose voice identifies Heart, and the guitarist whose presence is equally central to the sisters’ partnership.

There is a long history behind that pairing. Heart’s 2013 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction recognized a band whose identity drew on both hard rock and folk. At the Bowl, the sisters appeared as interpreters of another artist’s work rather than presenting a set built around their own hits.

An audience recording uploaded by Todd Norris documents the “Janie’s Got a Gun” performance and identifies the October 29 date in its title. It offers a record of the guest appearance from the crowd, distinct from Aerosmith’s official studio video. Watch the Hollywood Bowl performance below.

Ann Wilson’s return to performing

The appearance also follows a significant interruption in Ann’s working life. In a June 8, 2026 interview with ABC News’ Lara Spencer, she discussed her 2024 cancer diagnosis and the surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment that followed. Heart postponed touring while she recovered.

Ann told Good Morning America that she returned to the stage on February 28, 2025, as her energy improved. She also described deciding to appear without a wig and to perform in a wheelchair. “This is who I am,” she said. “And it was remarkably liberating for me to do that.”

In that June interview, Ann also said she and Nancy were on good terms and preparing a new project together. She described the continuing connection with lifelong listeners and the discovery of Heart by younger fans as among the greatest honors of her career.

The Aerosmith original

“Janie’s Got a Gun” was written by Steven Tyler and Tom Hamilton, as listed in the recording credits for Pump. Aerosmith’s official video, presented on its VEVO channel as the David Fincher cut, supplies the original visual counterpart to the song. The Hollywood Bowl cover gives that composition a different lead voice, with Ann taking the role associated with Tyler’s original recording.

Another Wilson sisters tribute

The sisters’ rendition of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” at the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors is a companion performance from a different occasion. A version is available on Heart’s official YouTube channel. Ann also singled out that Kennedy Center appearance when discussing career highlights in her ABC interview.

At the Hollywood Bowl, the setting was an Aerosmith celebration, and the Wilsons’ part was a compact two-song contribution to a much larger bill. The audience video preserves that specific moment: Ann and Nancy, together onstage, lending their established partnership to “Janie’s Got a Gun.”
