Shawn Mendes expanded the Illuminate anniversary rollout on September 25 with editions built around different unreleased 2016 demos. The original album arrived in 2016; the anniversary program also includes three later concert recordings.
The digital edition features the demo Cold in California, while the artist-store edition adds What If I Told You a Story. An earlier limited Blood Records vinyl edition includes She’ll Be the One. The announcement says all three versions share live performances of Treat You Better, Ruin and Mercy, recorded in New York, Boston and Montreal during the 2025 On The Road Again tour.
Which edition contains which recording?
The collector detail is that the demos are distributed across versions. A cover with the same anniversary title does not guarantee the same bonus track. Readers interested in a particular song can check the exact product or streaming listing before choosing an edition.
The combination offers two kinds of context: a demo can show an earlier stage in a song’s development, while a later live recording documents how repertoire is presented after years in performance. Those comparisons do not require assuming that either version is more definitive.
The official statement below identifies the configurations and links to the digital program. Availability of a limited pressing can be checked with the seller rather than inferred from this archived announcement.
