Mariah Carey announced a twenty-fifth-anniversary edition of Glitter on August 20, with release scheduled for October 30 through Def Jam Records/UMe.
The plan brings the 2001 album back to vinyl and adds fifteen tracks to an expanded digital edition. The bonus material includes rare and previously unreleased recordings, giving the campaign an archive component alongside the return of the original album.
A new collaboration introduces the campaign
A reimagined Didn’t Mean to Turn You On, featuring Rochelle Jordan, accompanied the announcement. It is a new presentation connected to the anniversary campaign, while the underlying album belongs to Carey’s earlier catalog.
Glitter served as both Carey’s eighth studio album and the soundtrack to the film of the same name. Its musical setting drew on the film’s 1983 backdrop, connecting the project to dance-pop, funk, hip-hop and R&B.
Compare the edition with the original
The vinyl return and the digital expansion answer different listening needs. One restores a physical way to encounter the album; the other places additional recordings around it. The shared anniversary title should not be taken to mean identical contents in every format.
For readers exploring the release, the original sequence remains a useful reference before moving into the additional tracks. That distinction separates the album as first issued from the later work of selecting and presenting its archive.
