Leon Bridges released Happiness Anytime on September 25 through Columbia Records. The album was produced by J Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto of Jungle, bringing a new partnership to Bridges’ recorded catalog.
According to the label’s announcement, the project grew across three sessions. A first four-day writing period produced six songs, and bassist Pino Palladino joined the recording work at Chaplin Recording Studios in Los Angeles.
Movement connects the record and the stage
Bridges describes the project around a return to movement and music made for dancing. The accompanying live presentation was introduced with a vinyl DJ, horn section and three backing vocalists.
Earlier in the release month, Bridges performed a medley of Talk It Over, Light the Way and Illusion on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The television selection provides one entry into the material; the album presents the songs in a different sequence and setting.

A collaboration announced through familiar names can be approached through the actual work credited to them. Production, instrumental playing and lead singing are separate contributions, even when they meet within one song.
That makes the credits useful for listeners arriving from either Bridges’ earlier releases or Jungle’s catalog. They identify the connection without requiring the new album to be reduced to a copy of either artist’s previous work.
