Alabama Shakes released I Must Be Dreaming on August 28 through Island Records, bringing the band’s first full-length album since 2015’s Sound & Color. The eleven-song collection reunites Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg and bassist Zac Cockrell.
The band co-produced the record with Shawn Everett, working at Nashville’s Sound Emporium Studios and Blackbird Studio. The label’s account describes songs developing after the musicians reunited in late 2024, with flute, harpsichord and sitar among the expanded instrumental palette.
A return built around new material
Another Life, American Dream, I Feel Hope Coming and Garden introduced the album ahead of release. Howard and Fogg frame I Feel Hope Coming around the possibility of change and the renewed collaboration within the band.
The release accompanied a North American and European touring period. Its announcement listed Radio City Music Hall, co-headline dates with Tedeschi Trucks Band and an Ohana Festival conclusion. These are details of the release campaign, rather than a claim that those September dates remain ahead.

The distinction between a reunion and a retrospective matters here. A returning group can revisit its working relationship while making a new sequence of songs. The complete album is the relevant document for that new chapter; the familiar earlier catalog provides context rather than a substitute for it.
