Wyatt McCubbin releases 650, with songwriting at the center of his debut

The October 16 release pairs a ten-song debut with a Boy In The Boat lyric video. MCA’s credits offer a useful starting point.

Wyatt McCubbin’s debut album 650 arrived on October 16 through Dave Cobb’s Lucille Records/MCA. The label identifies a ten-song collection produced by Cobb and recorded live to tape at Thunderbolt Studios in Savannah, Georgia.

The release also includes a lyric video for Boy In The Boat, credited to McCubbin and Erik Dylan. It supplies a focused entry into the project, while the album’s running order gives that individual song a wider setting.

Start with the writing credits

McCubbin appears as a writer across the track list, with collaborators changing between songs. The credits include Marty Stuart on I Love You and Jessi Alexander and Jon Randall on Fly Baby Fly. MCA also credits McCubbin’s wife, Holly, with harmony vocals throughout the album.

Those details are useful because a debut under one artist’s name is still a collaboration. Songwriting, production and performance are connected jobs, but identifying one does not automatically explain the others. The credits allow a listener to follow that creative network before making judgments about the record.

The lyric video and the full album do different work

A single track offers a manageable introduction. A complete album gives the same composition neighbors, an opening and a conclusion. Trying both forms can reveal how expectations change when a song is encountered alone or as part of a longer program.

The release’s live-to-tape production credit is also a starting point rather than a substitute for listening. It describes an aspect of the recording process; it does not, by itself, tell a listener how every instrument was balanced or every final decision was made.

For a first encounter, the practical choice is simple: use the official lyric video to meet one composition, then return to the album’s sequence and credits. This is a release report, rather than a claim that a production label alone determines the music’s quality.
