American figure skater Alysa Liu took the ice at the 2026 Olympic Gala in Milan on Saturday, February 21, performing to a remix of ‘Stateside’ by PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson.
Dressed in a shimmering blue costume, Liu skated to the reworked track from PinkPantheress’ ‘Fancy That’ mixtape. In a recent interview with Olympic and Paralympic correspondent Raymond Braun, Liu shared that PinkPantheress is her favorite artist, a choice that clearly shaped the tone and freedom of her gala performance.
Braun also passed along a personal message from PinkPantheress herself, who told Liu: “You are so inspiring, and when I was younger, I was obsessed with figure skaters, so you are literally living my dream. Thank you so much for the love.”

Earlier this month, Liu selected PinkPantheress’ 2023 album ‘Heaven Knows’ as her Perfect 10 for Pitchfork, explaining that the record helps her get focused and inspired before performances.
The skate was part of the Olympic figure skating exhibition gala, a celebratory showcase held after the conclusion of the Games, where medalists and elite skaters perform without competitive pressure.
Liu concluded the 2026 Winter Games with two gold medals, capturing the women’s singles title and contributing to Team USA’s victory in the team event. Footage of her ‘Stateside’ gala performance can be watched below.
Outside of the rink, PinkPantheress has remained highly active. Last month, she collaborated with MJ Cole on a new interpretation of his UK garage classic ‘Still Sincere,’ originally released in 1998.
PinkPantheress released her mixtape ‘Fancy That’ in 2025 alongside a companion remix project and earned two Grammy nominations this year in the Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Dance Pop Recording categories.
Her viral single ‘Illegal,’ which samples Underworld, was also nominated for Best Track at DJ Mag’s Best of British Awards in 2025.
