- Cut the right size fabric
The first and the most critical step in making your own tab top curtains are ensuring that they are the perfect size for your window. When cutting the material, ensure that they are about two times the fullness of your window. Ensure you have adjusted and added extra hems on either side and at the bottom of your curtains.
- Ensure the size of the tabs
Fold the fabric over the rod of your curtains and pin it to check what size your tabs should be. Ensure that the top edge will hang about 3- 4 inches below the curtain rod. To the measured length of the tab when pinned, add an inch to give allowance to the seam.
- Create the tabs
Most tabs are about 2 inches wide but you can make yours whatever width you prefer. Cut about five to seven pieces of material of whatever width you prefer. Sew the long edges together and always turn the right side up. If you have plenty of materials, you can play with the spacing and add more tabs.
- Finish the edges
Sew the edges of your tab top curtain. To create a clean edge, you should fold over twice and stitch a clean edge on both sides
- Attach the tabs
What is a tab top curtain without the tabs? After finishing the edges, it is time to sew on the tabs at a spacing of your choice depending on how many you made. These are very simple steps that allow you to make as many curtains as you want.
