At Bakkt Theater, Kelly Clarkson delivered a heartfelt performance alongside her children
Kelly Clarkson’s live trio performance of her classic song “Heartbeat Song” brought her 9-year-old daughter, River Rose, and son, Remington “Remy” Alexander, together for a very memorable occasion. At Clarkson’s Bakkt Theater show in Las Vegas, Nevada, the family trio delivered a heartfelt rendition of the hit synth-pop song.
Since “Heartbeat Song” is her daughter’s favorite, River Rose enthusiastically joined her mother on stage, blending her voice with Clarkson’s. Remy, on the other hand, appeared to be a natural on stage, unfazed by the sizable audience in attendance. Watch the video below to witness this heartwarming family moment.
River Rose has been singing this song since she was a toddler; she loves it so much, Clarkson told the crowd when explaining how her daughter requested to sing it on tour. River Rose insisted, “Please let me sing this song,” and chose her own outfit for the performance. Clarkson then invited her daughter on stage and proudly shared that River Rose “killed it” during soundcheck.
Supporters expressed their admiration for the mother-daughter duo, with comments like, “That’s a moment she will never forget,” and “A star is born! River Rose’s courage to stand up and sing passionately is thanks to Kelly. Kelly, that’s what we adore about you!” Due to the positive response, Clarkson invited River Rose to sing again the next night, with her 7-year-old brother, Remington Alexander, joining in for added charm.
Clarkson shares both of her children with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, whom she married on October 20, 2013. River Rose and Remington Alexander were born in June 2014 and April 2016, respectively. After a lengthy legal process that made headlines, the couple finalized their divorce in March 2022.
“Heartbeat Song” was the lead single from Clarkson’s seventh studio album, Piece by Piece. The song became her biggest hit in the last decade, achieving platinum status in the US. It topped the US Dance Club Songs chart and several other national charts worldwide, peaking at number ten.
Written by Mitch Allan, Kara DioGuardi, Jason Evigan, and Audra Mae, “Heartbeat Song” later faced controversy over its origins. Critics noted similarities in melody and chords to Jimmy Eat World’s 2001 alternative rock hit “The Middle.”
In response, Clarkson clarified, “I just sang the song; I didn’t write it,” adding that she hadn’t noticed the similarities. She praised Jimmy Eat World’s cool response, saying, “Hey, no harm, no foul.” Despite the apparent case for a lawsuit, the band didn’t pursue it, and they remain uncredited as co-writers on “Heartbeat Song.”
