Phil Collins Stuns Fans by Returning to Drumming, Proving Legends Never Fade After 10 Years!

Phil Collins has recently faced significant challenges, with various health issues preventing the legendary artist behind “In The Air Tonight” from performing or even playing the drums he’s widely celebrated for. Despite these setbacks, Collins recently had the opportunity to revisit his iconic Gretsch tom kit for the first time in over a decade through a new video produced by Drumeo.

The 73-year-old Genesis superstar has been contending with his physical health since approximately 2007, following a severe spinal injury. This injury has led to complications such as drop foot, a condition that hinders the ability to lift the front part of the foot, and persistent neck pain, a common ailment among drummers. These health issues have naturally made drumming a challenging endeavor for him.

Phil Collins Briefly Revisits His Classic Drum Kit in New Drumeo Documentary

In his latest documentary, Phil Collins: Drummer First, Drumeo interviewed Collins, highlighting his legacy as one of the most influential drummers of his time. The documentary candidly explores Collins’ physical limitations and his strategies for managing them. A significant portion of the film features Collins alongside his musically inclined son, Nic Collins, who is the drummer for Better Strangers.

Drumeo shared a snippet from the documentary where Nic Collins and Drumeo host Brandon Toews attempt to assemble Collins’ long-unused drum kit. This kit is renowned for being the one Collins used during the famous 1992 We Can’t Dance Tour with Genesis.

Once the kit was assembled, Nic took the first turn to play it, skillfully performing the iconic drum fill from Collins’ 1981 classic “In The Air Tonight.” It’s important to note, however, that this particular kit is not the one Collins used during the original recording of the hit song.

In the video, Nic observed that the drum setup required his father to lean forward to play effectively. He speculated that this positioning may have contributed to Collins’ poor posture and subsequent neck pain in his later years.

Towards the end of the video clip, Collins approaches his old drum kit and sits behind it. He taps the drums a few times before stating, “That’s enough of that,” and stands up again.
